About Me

A qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, providing a non-judgmental and empathetic service.
My model of counselling is integrative, drawing on components from Psychodynamic Theory (looking at the past including childhood) and Humanistic Theory (exploring the now and empowering clients to focus on themselves). I am trained and experienced in working with both adults and young people. I uphold the professional values of my ethical body BACP, by being an active and registered member

The combination of my own life experiences and my work life have given me a wealth of experience that has developed my understanding of how individuals may feel in the world we live in. I believe we are the experts of our own lives but sometimes we allow past events or influences of our environments to alter our true self. I offer a safe environment to provide a listening ear and to
empower you to explore your inner self and to encourage you to get to where you want to be.

Having graduated in 2007 with a 2:1 Honours Degree in Criminology and Social Policy, I volunteered doing youth work until I started work as a one-to-one Personal Advisor to young people in 2008, for a charity. I offered ‘therapeutic’ type sessions for 7 years before I left to focus on furthering my counselling studies. During this time, I worked for two years at a Carers agency offering voluntary counselling before setting up private practice.

My integrative model depicts that we are all born our pure and organismic self, over time we are moulded and influenced by people and the environment around us. We learn behaviours and values which follow us into adult life. Experiences and events of all varieties and magnitude, both large and small play a part in who we are and how we see and feel in the world we live in. I work with clients to explore possible reasons why you feel the way you do, tracing it back to your past while safely and responsibly exploring this with you if you wish. We then work together to focus on the now and how your learned behaviours are impacting on your life today.

Over the years I have worked with many presenting issues from a range of clients including:

  • Anxiety,
  • self-esteem,
  • self-harm,
  • eating disorders,
  • mental health issues,
  • relationship breakdowns,
  • work-life imbalance,
  •  grief and loss,
  • feelings of worthlessness,
  • identity
  • preparing for the death of a loved one.
